3 Scenes (Revised)

I just realized that I never posted the completed scene project. We needed to finish up the scene by adding two more onto it. I know it’s probably not the best thing but I really had no idea what to write.

Veronica checked her make up in the visor mirror in her car. After touching up her pink glitter lip gloss, she brushed her hair out of her face, and checked to make sure there was no food residue in her teeth. Looking her best was a necessity because students looked up to her. Being homecoming queen and head cheerleader were important roles in the school system and the roles made Veronica a spokes person for the rest of the student body.

Slipping out of the car, he sauntered across the parking lot, smiling and waving at familiar faces. It made her happy to be the center of attention because it meant people cared about their school. If Veronica was happy, the rest of the students got what they wanted. Students stepped out of her way as she stepped onto the sidewalk that led up to the front of the school. She recognized the awe in their faces as she passed by. Veronica’s smile faltered when her eyes landed on a group of kids huddled just outside the school doors. They were the rule breakers of the school, also known as the outcasts. They didn’t fit in with the natural flow of the school and what was worse was that her twin brother was one of them. Phil had always seemed odd to Veronica and she tried her hardest to get him in with the better crowd, but he never listened to her. She finally gave up the day he came out to her. It’s not that Veronica had a problem with gay people; she just didn’t want people to know she was the twin to one. It would lead to a lot of questions about her sexuality as well when she was straight as a pin. Veronica finally left her brother alone and went as far as estranging him from her life, denying their relationship as twins. He hated her for that and so did his friends, especially Leonie. Veronica went out of her way to make fun of Leonie and get her into trouble.

As she reached the front doors, Veronica found a reason to approach the group.

“Excuse me Leonie,” she said, stepping off the sidewalk and onto the grass so she wasn’t blocking the entrance.

“Well look who it is you guys! Its princess cunt,” Leonie sneered. “What is it now? You gonna write me up for breathing?”

I wish, Veronica thought. “No for smoking on school grounds.” She pointed to the cigarette rested between Leonie’s fingers.

“Whatever,” and Leonie threw the cigarette on the ground and stamped on it with her boot. Storming past Veronica, Leonie slammed into her, knocking her to the ground. Jeff, Leonie’s boyfriend, and Phil walked past Veronica, not offering to help her up. She was thinking of forms of payback for later when a hand was shoved into her face. Glancing up, she recognized Andy Walters, the last member of the outcast group. She knew him better than Leonie and Jeff because Andy was in almost all her classes. She didn’t understand why he was being so nice to her because she made fun of him more times a day than she made fun of Leonie, since she saw him more times a day. She grabbed his hand and pushed herself off the ground as he pulled.

“Thanks,” she said, trying to sound sincere.

“Don’t mention it ever,” Andy replied as he slipped passed her into the building.

Veronica watched as he walked down the hall and noticed that there was something different about him. It wasn’t because he had longer hair that was bleached blond on the top, and it wasn’t because his style changed. There was something about him that Veronica never noticed before now, but she couldn’t figure out what it was. Taking a breath to slow her fluttering heart, Veronica shook her head clear and headed for homeroom.

“What the hell are you doing here,” Leonie demanded.

Eyes falling to the floor, Veronica paid close attention to her hands as she wrung them. There was no reason for her to be nervous. “I came to hang out,” she replied.

Laughter erupted from Leonie. “No really what do you want?”

Veronica’s gaze went from her hands to Leonie’s face. She glared but Leonie wasn’t frightened. “I came to see Andy. I wanted to see if he wanted to hang out this weekend.”

The glare that fired from Leonie’s eyes was much more powerful than Veronica’s. It made her want to die right there.

“Sorry, we’re busy this weekend.”

“Oh really?” Veronica perked up. “What are you guys up to? Can I come?”

The glare became permanent. “No. What’s your sudden fascination with Andy anyway? Can’t you just leave the poor kid alone? He’s been through enough humiliation brought on by you.” The door started to close, but Veronica was too fast. Her hand made a bang as it slammed against the door.

“Look, I know I haven’t been the nicest person, but this time it’s for real. I really do have feelings for Andy.”

Leonie leaned in until she was mere inches from Veronica’s face. “You and I both know that’s bull. Now why don’t you run along to the mall with your gaggle of bimbos and buy yourself a life because this charade is getting old. Also, if I ever catch you talking with Andy again I will personally kick your ass.”

With those words the door slammed shut on Veronica’s face.

A wave of people flooded around Veronica as she stood in the middle of the school hallway. She watched as Andy walked over to his locker and waved goodbye to his friends. Ignoring the warning Leonie gave her, she rushed over to him before he was finished putting his books away.

“Andy,” she said, catching his attention.

Looking over, Andy’s smile slipped from his face, “Oh, hey.” Turning back to his locker he continued to fix the books in his locker.

“Doing anything this weekend?”

“Uhh… I don’t think so. Why?”

Glancing over Andy’s shoulder, Veronica saw Leonie leaning against her locker glaring in their direction. A smirk spread on Veronica’s face. “You want to hang out?”
He stopped, shocked at the question. “Very funny Veronica, why don’t you go bother someone else?” Closing his locker, Andy turned to leave. Veronica’s hand shot out and she grabbed his shoulder.

“I don’t want to bother someone else.” Andy turned and stared at her bewildered. “There’s something about you that I find interesting. I want to know what it is.”

Looking over at his friends, Andy hesitated, “I don’t know.”

“Don’t pay attention to them. Just trust me. This isn’t a trick.”

Staring at her for several minutes, Veronica could see his reasoning through his eyes. She held her breath until Andy said, “Okay, you get one chance, but if this turns out to be a trick you do know Leonie will kill you.”

A smile broke out on Veronica’s face, “Of course!” Flinging her arms around his neck, she embraced him, not caring who saw.
