Dark Shadows and Men In Black 3: A Double Feature

This is the first time this season I found myself back at the Delsea Drive-In Theater. The movie: Men in Black 3, but of course the drive-in always plays double features so we also got to see Dark Shadows.

Now, I don’t know if I was biased because I didn’t  really have an interest in seeing Dark Shadows to begin with, or what, but, in my opinion, it wasn’t very captivating, which is pretty surprising for a Tim Burton film. Not that the overall story wasn’t good. I gave a few chuckles here and there and I thought it was interesting, but overall the story of a vampire coming back after 200 centuries and saving his families business wasn’t really appealing.

But from the people who were fans of the soap opera, I hear that the movie is very similar and I know there were people who weren’t disappointed. Personally, I had more fun looking up at the star.

My real reason for being there, anyway, was to see Men in Black 3. I was a child when the first and second came out and they were instant favorites for me (the first one more so than the second). That’s why when I saw there was a third installment coming out on my birthday, I knew I had to see it.

Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) have been partners for 14 years, but there are still secrets kept between them. When Agent K disappears one day and everyone claims he’s been dead for 40 years, Agent J knows something is wrong. Something that has to do with the escape of murderer Boris the Animal (Jemaine Clement). Now Agent J must go back in time to stop Boris from doing anything that might alter the future of the world.

If you’re a fan of the first two installments of Men in Black, Men in Black 3 is definitely a movie to see. It has the same wit and humor as the first two, as well as the alien action. It will probably remain one of my top 10 favorite movies of the year.

Dark Shadows: Grade: C

Men In Black 3: Grade: A
