Insomnia: A Movie Review

Starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams, Insomnia tells the story of detective Will Dormer (Al Pacino) and his partner, Hap Eckhart (Martin Donovan), as they try to solve a murder in Alaska during the time of year when the sun does not set. Already jet lagged, Dormer finds it even more difficult to sleep with the sun constantly peeking through his curtains. One day, as they come close to catching the killer, Dormer accidentally shoots his partner and tries to cover up the mistake by blaming it on the killer.

As the investigation continues, Dormer is confronted by the killer, Walter Finch (Robin Williams), about him shooting his partner. While Dormer continues to try to bring Finch to justice, Finch is also helping Dormer cover up his crime.

Al Pacino plays a complex role in this film, trying to catch a killer that he’s also teaming up with for his own gain. And the role Robin Williams plays is a bit surprising just because I’m so used at seeing him in children’s films. I have seen him in a few serious roles both in film and on TV, but it still surprises me every time. I recommend this movie for lovers of suspense, mystery, and crime.
