30 years after the defeat of Darth Vadar, a new enemy, known as the First Order, threatens the galaxy. To fight the First Order, the resistance is on the search for Luke Skywalker, who has been in hiding for many years. Rey, a scavenger from the planet Jakku, finds the droid BB-8 who says it is carrying important information for the resistance. With the help from a rogue storm trooper, Finn, as well as smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca, the group rushes to aid the resistance before the information falls into the hands of the First Order.

I didn’t grow up a Star Wars fan, so I made sure to watch all of the movies before going to see The Force Awakens. And although I was new to the series I was excited to see the movie, hoping it would live up to the hype and expectations of many.

The overall story was well written and entertaining. I enjoyed the banter that went on between the characters, especially between Han Solo and Chewbacca. The banter, along with other visuals, helped give the feel of the original trilogy, which I really liked and had me laughing. However, while I thought the acting was great, I did think some actors had better performances than others.

Besides that, my main issues with the movie were that the character development happened a bit too quickly. Finn and Rey meet and quickly become best friends, although with Rey’s attitude she should have taken a lot longer to be comfortable with Finn. I also found a lot of the last half hour or so of the movie to be predictable, probably because it’s been similarly played out before.

Overall, The Force Awakens was entertaining and I have a feeling there is a lot more in store for the upcoming episodes. I think The Force Awakens helped bridge the gap to the original trilogy, making it enjoyable for both the older Star Wars generation and a newer generation.
