Once known as Lord Eon, Dragoneye apprentice, Eona, who is now Mirror Dragoneye, has shed her male disguise and is now on the run from Sethon and his men. Her goal: to find Lord Kygo and help him take the throne back from his uncle. But, unable to control her Dragoneye powers, Eona feels that she is putting not only the throne, but her friends lives at risk, and the only one who can help her is the traitor, Lord Ido. Will she be able to trust both Kygo and Ido with her powers? Or will their want for control lead her to become enslaved?

A few months back I reviewed Eon, the first of the series, which I really enjoyed reading. Eona is definitely no different. The story picks up right where it left off and goes full force into a new plot. I did find some of the chapters a bit long, but they did keep the story going so it wasn’t like any of the chapters were a waste to the overall plot. I also found some of the characters always going through this ‘I’m mad’/’I’m not mad’/’I’m mad’ motion which got kind of annoying after a while, but there were plenty of shocks and surprises and plot twists (some of which I saw coming, but other’s that were truly a surprise) that made up for any character annoyances.

As someone who enjoys writing Young Adult fiction, I really enjoy Alison Goodman’s writing. Her characters are always interesting and she’s great at starting a plot in one book and bringing it over to the next book without making it drawn out. She definitely makes you care about the characters and what happens to them, whether they are friend or foe.

But one of the best parts is how much research she puts into her stories. Although Eon/Eona takes place in a fictional world, there are roots in Chinese and Japanese culture that make it feel very real and believable. To learn more about Alison Goodman and her research for Eon/Eona visit her website.
