Thank You for Smoking: A Movie Review

Nick Naylor’s (Aaron Eckhart) job makes him one of the most hated men in the world. He’s the lobbyist for cigarettes, and you smoking helps him pay his bills. His job is to convince people to smoke and to keep them smoking. But Nick doesn’t care if you hate him. He loves his job and believes he was meant to be a lobbyist. That is until his interview with a promiscuous newspaper reporter, Heather Holloway (Katie Holmes), which brings down his career and friendship with the lobbyists for alcohol and guns.

Thank you for Smoking was a random movie choice. I had never heard of it, but my fiancé had and it was the only good movie choice. A comedy, this movie won’t exactly have to rolling on the floor from laughter, but it does have its moments where it deserves a good chuckle.

I feel, overall, that while it is comedic it does have a good message to it. Although Nick Naylor’s job isn’t what most people would want to do (promote smoking knowing that it could kill millions) he does it because he likes being a lobbyist. It all comes down to what you like to do and it doesn’t matter what other people think as long as you enjoy your job.
